Subject: Chuck Bradley WWII Vet
We receiver a phone call from Chuck recently, he is doing fairly good
all things being considered. His eye sight is not what he wants it to be and he has some mobility problems. Considering all that he was in good spirits and would like to hold a Reunion in Philly again. Chuck was one of the early, active, and true supporters of the association. He hosted several reunions in Philly and did an outstanding job.
If you remember Chuck, give him a call or drop him a note, he will appreciate it. Remember, he is one of the few remaining "Greatest Generation" that gave us so many real hero's.

It is most appropriate at this time that we as an association send a special thank you to a very special group
Namely: those of our ranks who were a part of the group that has been referred to as
THE GREATEST GENERATION.
WE THANK YOU FOR YOUR SERVICE.
Your numbers may be dwindling but your sacrifices will never be forgotten
Things have changed much over the last few years. I remember when our service men and women returned from Viet Nam and were treated terribly, but no more. Our veterans who are coming home at this time as the result of the total withdrawl from Iraq are receiving heros welcomes and that is as it should be. I often wear a military ball cap and have been thanked for my service numerous time in the last few years and that too is as it should be We also need to thank the veterans of the forgotten war. Korea. I am just old enough to remember WWII. Military vehicles as a regular part of local traffic and military flights overhead. Even the corner mailboxes were painted Olive Drab. Do you remember that? I also remember older uncles and cousins wearing the uniform of our services. Our military men and women were highly respected. And they still are. Again Thank you WWII vets for your service to our country.

JUST THINK HOW THIS YOUNG LADY FELT WHEN SHE DISCOVERED THE VIDEO HER FATHER SHOT.
Great video of a Spontaneous Victory Parade in Honolulu in 1945. Take a look at this video- absolutely fabulous! Notice the cars and jeeps, youth. The guys in khaki or gray shirts and black ties are Navy officers or chiefs. The rest are Army or Marine. How young they all were to do what they did. This guy really captured a moment in history! (You can listen to Jimmy Durante singing "I'll be Seeing You" in the background, too) This is a super video of a time past - we need to remember and be THANKFUL. Check out the color fidelity. It's not bad for 1945. Nothing will ever compare with Kodachrome film.
CLICH HERE for the video.

While Bill Cosby wasn't aboard the USS FT Mandan, LSD-21, when I was the Fall of 1953, I have added a copy of an autographed picture he sent the veterans of the FT Mandan. He was a HM3, in 1960.

The following was copied from Google.
We read about this incident but did not get to see the pictures.
On April 10, 2010, the amphibious dock landing ship USS ASHLAND (LSD 48) destroyed a pirate skiff after being fired upon by suspected pirates in the Gulf of Aden, approximately 330 nautical miles off the coast of Djibouti.

For good fun, here's another look at the skiff burning. The stupidity of these pirates actually firing upon a U.S. Navy destroyer is beyond comprehension.

Subj: Dad...
Dear Family:
Just wanted to let you know that dad has been admitted to Unity Hospital. It doesn't sound like anything real serious, but details are still a bit sketchy. He apparently was not responding to the telephone or knocks on the door all day yesterday, so Bruce’s father in law broke into the house, and evidently found him on the floor, non-coherent. He was brought to the hospital by ambulance, and worked up through the night, and pretty much everything was negative except for a possible urinary tract infection. I haven't been able to reach him or Kristin (Bruce’s wife) directly, but they are at a radiation oncology appointment this afternoon, so that would indicate he is doing fairly well. Hopefully this may all have developed from hypoxia (oxygen too low), but that is a guess on my part. I did call and speak with his nurse a little while ago, and he was helpful, but didn't have much information as apparently dad has been in tests and appointments pretty much all day, so the nurse hasn't seen him much. Sorry I don't have more to tell you, but wanted to let you know at least what we know to this point. Will plan to follow this up when we know more. We are grateful for Dick & Mary’s (Bruce’s parents-in-law), and Kristin’s help.
Thanks as always for your prayers
Steve & Yvonne
PS: Just as I was about to send this, Dad called! He sounds tired but in good spirits. He confirmed that there was no trauma or injury, but he had to go to the bathroom so frequently yesterday that he essentially became exhausted, and then later somewhat disoriented, and did not have enough energy to get to the phone or the door. He is lucid now and gives good history of what happened yesterday, and what he has learned today and sounds like he is doing well. While in the hospital he has continued the work up and consultations are taking place which will help him decide what is the best way to tackle the bladder cancer. He will be meeting with his pulmonologist (lung doctor) and a cardiologist to see whether he could be cleared for surgery if that turns out to be the recommendation. Sdw/ycw
